Sitka & Spruce was seriously amazing last night.
Everything was so delicious and perfect - I can't say enough good things about it!
And this morning, all I can think about is : I want to eat vaca frita for breakfast!!
Darling Alice and I went in for a late supper - after being disappointed by Elemental at Gasworks (which, I have decided - perhaps prematurely - is over-rated) - and while it was a little later than I would normally like, it probably worked out for the best - it wasn't too crowded, and our food came up right away, once we'd ordered.
We had a yummy glass of wine (a Rhone blend is all I remember, we had it at the recommendation of one of the adorable servers); octopus with chickpeas, miner's lettuce and green sauce; and vaca frita: braised and then fried beef, served with lavash, mignionette and a mix of braised bitter greens and mint.
The octopus was delicious - it actually rivals the perfect octopus I once had at the Harvest Vine.... it was slightly crispy and spiced (paprika?) on the outside, and then tender and mild on the inside... so good! I loved it with the fresh miner's lettuce and the firm chickpeas - it was just right: satisfying and light and mediterranean-y.
The vaca frita will live in my dreams until I go back to eat it again. I just hope they keep it on the menu long enough for me to get back there! I don't think I have words to do it justice... just let me say that the mignionette on the beef is genius.
OK - that's enough of my faux-foodie ramblings...
